Minch Moor

  Posted by johnb

Length of route:
33 km (20 mi)
Suitable for:
Cycling
And:
Off-road
Details:

Start at a small parking area just to the east of Yair Bridge on the Selkirk - Clovenfords road.

The route follows NCR1 on a track along the south side of the Tweed. It joins a minor road for a few km until you reach a forestry track opposite Walkerburn at NT358367. It's quite a stiff haul now as the track heads upwards to emerge on the ridge. Take some time to get your breath back at the Cheese Well. To ensure a safe onward journey, it's considered good practice to leave a discrete offering of food for the small people who dwell hereabouts...;-)

Continue along the ridge. You're following the Southern Upland Way and this section is a real delight. The ridge undulates and eventually you'll reach the Three Brethren, the obvious cairns that mark the meeting of three ancient lands.

After admiring the extensive views, simply follow the SUW as it heads steeply down at first, and then through the trees and back to Yair Bridge.
