5-day Lake District Circuit
(route)
This was a 5-day tour I did by myself in 2006 Autumn. It started at Old Dungeon Ghyll in the Langdale Valley and took the followinging routes:
Day 1 - Head west to Angle Tarn, Great End and Scafell Pike. Head down Mickledore and stay the night in Wasdale Head.
Day 2 - Follow the path up to Great Gable, Green Gable, Brandreth and shoot over Haystacks passing Innominate Tarn. Head down into Buttermere to stay the night.
Day 3 - Head up Whiteless Breast and Whiteless Pike then make the most of the day high up as you pass Coledale Hause and head up Grisedale Pike. Head down to Braithwaite to stay the night. This is all an underwalked area and is quite a quick day so can be extended easily.
Day 4 - Head over to Catbells, Maiden Moor, High Spy then make the most of the height to visit Dale Head (a difficult ascent to find from the tarn below), Hindscarth Head and Robinson. Retrace your steps to stay the night in Rosthwaite - be careful making sure you cross the river in the right place.
Day 5 - Head along the pasth to ascend towards Sergeant Man, passing High Raise, Harrison Stickle, Pike of Stickle and Stake Pass. Descend into the valley for a well deserved pint in Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel.
This is a relatively easy set of walks for the intermediate walker travelling not more than about 11 miles each day. Climbing on Day's 1 and 2 can be a bit trying with a heavy pack but by Day 3 this shouldn't be a problem.
