  1. Wooler as a cycling hub... (interest group)
Hopefully this will act as a focus for those interested cyclists (both on and off road) who have routes they wish to share in the Wooler and Eastern Cheviot areas..
  2. Wooler circular route 2 Ilderton Off Road (route)
This is the route 2 described in the leaflet 'Discovering Glendale and Wooler', with minor adjustments at Roddam
  3. Ingram Powburn Titlington Access land and back (route)
This route uses the delightful DEFRA scheme financed permissive bridle path through Shawdon Dene, includes a stiff road climb, follows a bridleway through Titlington to the Access land and back via Beanely (Just()y's new home. It has good views and only one really stiff climb.
  4. Ingram Prendwick road to the hill fort and back via the duck pond (route)
This route follows the green lane/drove road up to the hill fort, bears right across the hill and returns via the gully and duck pond, more hill forts and down the bridleway to Ingram Farm. There are no technical bits or hairy drop offs, and providing it is dry and the wind isn't too bad easily cyclable in an hour or so.
  5. Cushat Law and Bloodybush Edge (route)
Ascend Hogden Law from the minor road to Ewartly Shank. Break up onto fenceline and ridge and follow across Cushat Law and Bloodybush Edge. Descend to Uswayford before taking bridleway up to the Border Gate and then dropping down to Cocklawfoot.
  6. Ingram Lilburn Coldmartin Haugh head and back by the NCN 68 (route)
This route (as do many of my routes) is thanks to Derek Purdy of "Northumberland Mountain Bike Guide" fame. It has no really steep climbs, some good views of the Cheviots and Millfield plain and for a small part runs along St. Cuthbert's way. Whilst there are no difficult technical sections some of the rutted tractor tracks can be challenging, not for children I fear. Just off it is the much neglected Cheviot Hill Riders jumps and downhill track. In it's day this was a first rate facility, lack of funds mean it's a bit dilapidated now(2009). You can still use it though. Contact Michael at Haugh Head Wooler NE71 6QP or 01668 281316 for details re access/availability
  7. Ingram Powburn Beanley and back (route)
This is mostly a route on tracks and minor roads, there are a couple of real pulls, but worth it for the views. Much of it courtesy Derek Purdy of "Northumberland Mountain Bike Guide" fame The section through Powburn, up the old railway track through Crawley Dene (before the big pull up) is on a DEFRA scheme bridleway and used extensively by local equestrians, it can be very muddy. As you pass behind the Hunt kennels at Beanley give a thought for my earstwhile companion Just(l)y and her bro Jasper, more details at her blog on this site and photos at http://s637.photobucket.com/albums/uu97/sadoldsamurai/Justy/ This route can be downloaded as a GPX file from http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ingram-Powburn-Beanley-and-back
  8. Ingram Hill training route (route)
The off road section of this 'route; is across access land, I am unsure of the acess agreements conditions regarding MTB, but suspect if you do no damage, are cheerful and polite Johnny and Sarah will have no problems with your prescence. Slow muddy climb once you leave the tarmac if there has been any rain. Basically I climb the main track a bit, then turn off to the right along the most convienient sheep track and come down the shoulder of the hill. This makes a nice easy downhill, you can choose your own line from the many sheep tracks and finish with the 'technical bit' along the top of the wall towards Bulby's wood.
  9. Cheviots (interest group)
The purpose of this group is to share knowledge and experiences in the Cheviot Hills.
