Chipping and Bowland Circuit(route)
The first part of this route is quite strenuous with a climb up to Wolf Fell.
We started from the car park below Sykes Nab but you could start from the village of Chipping (parking, pubs & shops).
From the car park follow the track (south west)along Langden Brook to just passed Langden Castle (ruin of which we could find no trace unless it was rebuilt as a cattle shed!).
The route now starts to climb up to Fiendsdale Head. The moor top is quite badly eroded and can make walking difficult especially in bad weather.
The route now heads due south following boundary walls with Fair Snape Fell to the west and Wolf fell east.
Continue south passed Parlick to make your way along lanes and paths to Chipping.
The return journey now heads north out of the village across fields and tracks linking various farms until eventually you reach Langden Brook and the start point.
Slaidburn & Bowland Circuit(route)
Quite strenuous in parts with a few steep climbs but well worth the effort.
Start and finish at the village of Slaidburn.
Leave the village and head for Wood House or you could cut this corner and stick to the lane. The track leads up to Dunsop Head and down to Whitendale and another climb over to Brennand Farm.
Now the longest ascent from the farm up Whin Fell. Looking west you soon catch a glimpse of the Irish Sea.
Descend to the Trough of Bowland road and the parking area by Sykes Nab.(In season there is usually a stall here selling teas and bacon butties)
Cross the river and walk along the permissive route to the farm and recross heading for Dunsop Bridge and then follow the river Hodder to Boarsden.
From here a series of paths connect to the village of Newton where once again you pick up the Hodder and return to Slaidburn.
There are excellent pubs at Slaidburn and Newton.
Carlisle to Conwy Cycle(route)
A multi day tour passing through over half a dozen counties and many sublime landscapes.
