Stairhaven to Auchenmalg

A cliff walk along the east coast of Luce Bay with the possibility of seeing Basking Sharks and a wide variety of bird life. Bring your binoculars.

Cairnsmore of Fleet & the Knee of Cairnsmore

A circular route of Newton Stewart's Hill. The route is following the path to the summit along to the Knee and return via the Graddoch burn. With the right conditions the views from the top are arguably the best in Galloway.
Start and finish is the new car park at Cairnsmore Estate NX462632
There is a well defined path going north easterly to the summit firstly on the estate road, through forest and open hillside. The route goes southerly to the cairn 656m along the plateau then a short retracing of steps before heading south westerly alongside the Graddoch Burn before picking up a track that leads back to the estate road and the car park.

Corserine

A different start point to climb the second highest top in Galloway. From Forrest Lodge a good path leads to the summit of Corserine on the Rhinns of Kells. This ridge gives uninterrupted views during the entire walk. Finish at Craigencallie.
Start is the car park at Forrest Lodge NX552862 A westerly direction along the forest roads leads to open hillside at Folk Burn followed by a steepish ascent to the top of Coserine. Swinging southerly the route traverses Millfire, Milldown, Meikle Millyea, Little Millyea and Darrou. A short descent leads to a forest road and the finish at Craigencallie NX503780.

Buchan Hill

A pleasant straightforward walk passing two of Galloway's beautiful lochs followed by a route along the Buchan Ridge back to Bruce's Stone.
Start and finish is Loch Trool car park NX413802 The route passes Buchan farm house and takes the path to Gairland Burn leading to Lochs Valley, Neldricken and Arron with a northerly point at Craig Neldricken. A south westerly direction goes along the Rig of Enoch to the top of Buchan Hill with a steepish descent to a path back to Buchan farm house, Bruce’s Stone and the car park.

Merrick (via Kirrereoch)

An opportunity to capture the highest Corbett in southern Scotland. This is the classic horseshoe of Kirriereoch and the Merrick affording splendid panoramic views with closeups of the glaciated slopes of the Merrick itself.
Start and finish is the car park close to Kirriereoch farm NX358866 The route follows an easterly direction to the top of Kirriereoch initially following a forest road before fording the Cross Burn. A steep climb to Carnirock Stone is followed by an easy stroll to Kirriereoch then a descent to the bottom of Little Spear. Another steep climb to the Merrick and going westerly down the ridge leads to Kirriemore where a new forest road is found that leads back to the car park.

Saints and Sinners

St Ninian's Cave to Isle of Whithorn Coastal Path. Follow in the footsteps of St Ninian and hear yarns about the smugglers along the shore. Then walk the cliff top path with its stunning views of Ireland and the Isle of Man.
Start is car park at Kidsdale NX432366 The path through the glen leads to the shore and St Ninian’s Cave. The route goes easterly by the shore line along the clifftops to Burrowhead and finishing at the Isle of Whithorn NX478361.

Bargaly Glen

A real mixture of hill, moor, forest and water with the reward of one of the finest views of Loch Trool. This walk should appeal to those who want a decent walk without too much climbing.
Start and finish is Kirroughtree Visitor Centre NX451647 The route is clockwise with the Palnure Burn in the centre. The first half is northerly and the second southerly with Corwar the furthest point. The walk utilises existing paths, forest roads and farm tracks.

The Approach of Edward's Army

Follow the route taken by the English Army prior to the Battle of Trool in 1307.
Start point is the car park 300m north of the Borgan NX362748 The route goes north easterly along the water of Minnoch past the Roman Bridge and joins the Southern Upland Way near Holm farm. Continuing along the SUW beside the Water of Trool the route goes past the Martyrs Tomb along the southern shores of Loch Trool to Glenhead where a forestry road leads westerly to Bruce’s Stone and the finish at Loch Trool car park NX413802.

Cairnsmore of Fleet

This route starts at Talnoltry and follows the whole whaleback finishing at Gatehouse Station. On a clear day it is possible to see 6 Kingdoms!
Start point is at Talnoltry the former campsite NX488715 The first section is steep over rocky and poorly defined ground in a south easterly direction past the Flesh Market and Big Gairy to the top of Craignelder. The route is now southerly past the Coo Lochans over Meikle Multaggart and a final steep climb to the summit of Cairnsmore. Continuing southerly to the Knee of Cairnsmore and the cairn spot height 656m and then south easterly past the door of Cairnsmore and the Clints of Dromore finishing at the Visitor Centre NX554637.
