Blencathra via. Doddick Fell(route)
An unusual ascent of the well-know southern front of Blencathra, described by Wainwright as 'a grand climb, quite easy, with striking views of the objective...a splendid way to the top of Blencathra.'
Begin at a small layby 350 yards to the west of Scales Inn on the A66. Follow the footpath west parallel to the road. After wading across Scaley Beck, there is some tricky scrambling. A narrow track climbs onto the ridge of Doddick Fell. Continue along this track to the shoulder. Take the footpath east, which, after many zig-zags reaches the summit. Retrace your steps, continuing past the shoulder and onto Scales Fell. The footpath descends towards the A66. At the junction head east towards Scales Inn and the layby.
