The ride taks a circular route through hilly Hertfordshire visiting George Bernard Shaw's house and Cromer windmill. It passes through many small villages, so finding a pub stop for lunch will not be a problem and there are two cafes very close to the route. Wheathampstead is a convenient starting point (free car park in East Street), but you could start anywhere and there is easy access from London with four train lines passing close by.
